[ca. 5 February 1838]

My dear Miss Wilson,

Unfortunately I have engaged to go out to Windsor on Saturday with a Mr Edgeworth1 (the Novellist's2 Brother), and stay with him a day or two.3 I expect to be back about the middle of the week, or earlier, and to see you then.

You are very kind to me and the Review.4

As soon as I return I mean to shut myself up in a solitary room, with pen and ink; and then set to considering with the whole force that is in me, what and how, in Heaven's name, these “Lectures” are to be,—if they are to be at all!5

Believe me always / faithfully Yours / T. Carlyle.
