TC TO MRS. RICKETTS

5. Cheyne Row, Chelsea, / Monday. [18 June 1838]

My dear Madam,

Very unluckily I yesterday, making more haste than speed to get on board a Steamboat, had an ugly full-length fall; which has lamed me a little, and indeed might have been far worse. The accident is not dangerous as it now proves, nor likely to trouble me long at all: but I doubly grieve for it as my promise and purpose for Wednesday is thereby rendered impossible, and your kindness to me of none effect for this once. I pray you accept my regrets; and believe me always,

Most truly Your's, /

T. Carlyle.
