TC TO JOHN FORSTER
Chelsea, 10th May, 1840—
My dear Sir,
Do not fail to express warmly to Mr Keane my great thankfulness for the trouble he is taking; my satisfaction to know that he will continue to report all these Lectures. Tell him that we now depend upon him for it; that he has just to proceed as his Note1 promises he will;—that he need not spare tobacco, for I myself am a smoker!
So far as I have yet got that First Lecture examined, it seems wonderfully good on his part. Whether for the press or not I shall be right glad to have all the rest as Mr Keane can give them.
Yours always truly /
T. Carlyle
