TC TO CHARLES BURTON

Mr Carlyle presents his compliments to the Revd Dr Burton; from whom he has just received a Note,1 thro' Mr Fraser the Bookseller.
Mr C. is altogether a stranger to the matter of that Note; never having hitherto had the honour of any correspondence whatever with the R[e]vd Dr Burton. Mr C. begs leave to return the Note; concluding that it must have been meant for some other Thomas Carlyle than him.
