JWC TO JOHN FORSTER
[30 November 1840]
My dear Mr Forster
I beg of you to tell me by return of post what “serious domestic Calamity” has befallen Mr Macready— two people I know have seen they assure me, this phrase in a newspaper1—and I am very anxious and unhappy, guessing at what it can mean— I dare not enquire at themselves and turn most naturally to you— I love them all so much—and they were all so happy when I last saw them!
Most Truly yours /
Jane Carlyle
