TC TO JOHN FORSTER
Chelsea, 11 jany, 1841—
Dear Forster,
Many thanks for the Books;1 which came in the nick of time, just when I have finished the immeasurable rubbish-heap of Whitelocke, the learned Ox.2
Getting on? Alas, I am getting on with nothing,—if it be not with total spiritual paralysis, and a preparation for some Coroner's verdict of Died by the effect of stupid reading! It is doubtful to me whether ever I shall make more of it.
You will come to the Committee on Saturday?3 Fail not.
My wife I suppose is writing to you—
Yours ever truly /
T. Carlyle
John Forster Esq
