TC TO HENRIETTA MARIA STANLEY
Chelsea, 12 feby 1841—
Dear Mrs Stanley,
Your Note never got into my hands till last night about 11 o'clock. I had been two days on a Special Jury; judging, till near dead, about Patent India-Rubber wool-cards! Stewed, choked, exasperated with the Babylonish jargon,—till I was like to rise in my Box, and address to the assembled multitude, bigwigs and all, a few words of Scotch!1
Besides I am printing two Books, an old, and a new one of Hero-Lectures; I am up to the throat in Proofsheets.
Tomorrow I will call for you.
Yours with hero-worship,
T. Carlyle—
