TC TO STEPHEN SPRING RICE
Chelsea, 5 Augt, 1842—
Kind Palinurus! 1
It does flash on me with some force of evidence that decidedly I ought to go! Tomorrow, therefore, about noon, I will endeavour to meet you at the Custom-House, with a small travelling-bag in my hand.
You shall provide tobacco, cigars, and if possible, pipes; you shall undertake to bring me back on Tuesday; and in the meanwhile sail with me whither you will.
With thanks and regards,
T. Carlyle
