TC TO STEPHEN SPRING RICE

Chelsea, 18 Novr, 1842—

Dear Spring Rice,

You are very kind; and chalk out a right pleasant adventure for me. Had you said some other Saturday—who knows! But at present I am over head and ears in travail; bitter birth-throes of “Much Ado about Nothing”; and must abide here till the Fates send relief, or some Cesarean operation be performed! Nous verrons [We shall see].

I think I must walk out some Sunday to Hither Green,1 now that I know the name of it; and learn the road first.

Blessings be on your House.

Yours ever truly /

T. Carlyle
