TC TO AN UNIDENTIFIED CORRESPONDENT
Chelsea, 11 jany, 1843—
What a peremptory man: “—Receive the honour of Knighthood with this sword, or I will give you a cut with it!”—
You should give me more warning. Three days ago I was bespoken, unlucky that I am, to dine with fat Scotch Theologians, in Gower Street,1 on Thursday! “Nobody can be in two places at once, unless he be a bird”:2 can he?
With sorrow, yet with blessings,
T. Carlyle
