My dear Sir,
I received some days ago a second Copy of your Sacred Poems;1 a copy was already in my hands, and I had been reading in it with interest, but in a great press of occupation had delayed to acknowledge it. I now beg your acceptance of many thanks for both; the succedaneous copy, which it is not fair for me to keep, I shall know how to dispose of with advantage if you allow me.
I wish you would write me a good prose book withal, such as you are well able for. You will think it sad heresy; but I do infinitely prefer prose to poetry in these earnest days. It is the nature of the beast!
