Maryland Street, Liverpool Monday Evg 31 july, 1843—

My dear Mother,

Jack and I are safe home from Wales about an hour ago; that is all I can find room to say today, as my hand is quite out of order, and the Post is departing. You shall hear more either tomorrow or next day. Jack is gone back to the Inn he lodged at; I am here but have yet seen nobody. They will all be here at dinner.—— I think of getting over to Annandale this week; Jack does not seem certain yet what he will do.

Here he is at this moment! I add not a word more, but my love and regards to one and all.

Good day dear Mother.

Ever your affectionate

T. Carlyle
