TC TO [EDWARD CHAPMAN OR WILLIAM HALL]
Chelsea, 24 March, 1844—
My dear Sir,
The Bearer, Mr Wm Muirhead, lately a Bookseller and Stationer's shopman in Dumfries, is authentically described to me as an active and altogether respectable young man; which indeed his appearance indicates him to be. He has come up to London seeking employment. I do not expect that you have any room for him: but I wish you would examine him a little, and give him a word of advice as to what he is to look for or attempt,—whether there is any chance for him, and if so where.
I remain always / Yours most truly
T. Carlyle
