Chelsea, Friday [3 January 1845]

Dear Sir,

Will you, tomorrow, look in Baines's History of Lancashire vol II, p. 45, for a Letter of Cromwell's, “To the Lancashire Com̅ee sitting at Manchester,” dated 19 Augt 1648 (for I already have one of that later date to the same Address);1 and whether it do not begin: “Gentlemen, It hath pleased God this day to show his great power” &c (as mine here does). If not, if it be really another Letter, take a copy of it for me. If you have doubts, wait till you have seen the one here.

In copying you need not mind the spelling; make it all into correct spelling; do not write too close, that I may have room for corrections.

Yours truly /

T. Carlyle
