TC TO WILLIAM TAIT

Chelsea, 24 june, 1845—

Dear Sir

I learn from various quarters that my name stands upon some Book that you are now publishing. I know not well what Book it is: but I know very well there is no Book published by you, and indeed never was any, on which my name has or had the smallest shadow of authority to stand. I therefore request with all distinctness that you will at once and altogether remove it from the said Book whatever that be; and be so considerate as not to append it henceforth in any similar case.1

Being in unspeakable haste at this time, I restrict myself to the indispensable;—and remain
