Chelsea, 4 july, 1845

Dear Sir,

I would very gladly oblige you; but cannot in this way. You must take my name out of that Book,1 and not put it into any other.

The Translations,—to whomsoever they now belong, for that is uncertain to me at present,—are much at your service. The Authors' names, and not mine, who never had much connexion with them, and always kept that a secret,2 ought to be appended to them.

In very great haste,

Yours truly /

T. Carlyle
