TC TO [WILLIAM HALL?]

Bay House, Alverstoke, Hants 18 Decr, 1845—

Dear Sir,

Could you be so good as send off a Copy of the Cromwell, addressed, “Samuel Wells Esq, Fen Office, Ely”;1—first writing on the fly-leaf of it, “From the Author with thanks.” Mr Wells furnished me with some documentary matter; and now requests to have this honour done him.

Have you such a thing as a Proof of the Print of Cromwell? A friend of mine, whom I much value, wants one to frame. But about this latter I will make some more special application by and by.

We return to Chelsea on friday come a week; I hope to see you soon after that.

Yours always truly /

T. Carlyle
