Chelsea, 2 March, 1846

Dear Sir,

Dr Christie will present you a certificate which I have drawn up for him; every word of which I wish to have understood as true. If you need any service of the kind now or afterwards; or failing that for the present, you could give him any direction as to how and when be might apply with hope of employment,—you would do a benefit to a man of real merit, and to others who may stand in need of one like him.

Yours always truly /

T. Carlyle
