Brookfield?” Dated by JWC's having been at Addiscombe “for the last week” and, further, having seen TC on Mon., 30 March (see TC to JWC, [30–31 March]), she knew that TC would be free “tomorrow.” William Henry Brookfield (1809–74; ODNB), B.A., Trinity College, Cambridge, 1833; M.A., 1836; ordained to curacy in Southampton, 1834; curate in London parishes, 1840–48; m., 1841, Jane Octavia Elton; inspector of schools, 1848–65; chaplain in ordinary to Queen Victoria; friend of Tennyson, Arthur Hallam, Milnes, Thackeray, and other men of letters. He met TC in 1841 and was to see him often thereafter, mainly at the Barings'.
