Bay House, Alverstoke 10 feby, 1847—

Dear Sir,

There can be no doubt but the Three Emersons you had already consigned to Mr Putnam's care are the same Three to which Miss Fuller's new order has reference. We have given her notice to that effect: indeed the Copies themselves are probably, by this time, in her hands.1—— I shall be very happy to possess a Copy of the Characteristics of Men of Genius, according to your kind proposal.2 We are to return to Chelsea in about a week; unless this wild weather continue longer.

There is a review of Emerson's Poems in the Manchester Examiner of this week; by a friendly, veracious, but no very gifted hand.

Yours always truly /

T. Carlyle
