At the top of the MS someone has written “London, 1848.” Dated tentatively by JWC's report of Charlotte Wynn's visits “tomorrow and Sunday,” 15 and 16 Jan. (JWC to TC, [14 Jan.]), possibly the “next Sunday evening” mentioned in this letter. Bölte wrote Varnhagen, 23 Jan., that while TC was away and JWC stayed home because of a cold, Miss Wynn came every day to cheer her up. “That seemed to me quite charming, although the friendship is so new it appears a little effusive. But no less to my taste on that account. I wonder how long it will go on like that” (Böltes Briefe 54, trans.).
