Dear Forster,—I considerably enjoyed the adventure of yesterday: don't mind it a whit! I got into an admirable chophouse directly in those foreign regions, and by the barbarous people was kindly entreated, and had my humble necessities supplied;—chuckling in my sleeve at the “despair” of N° 58;1 and partly guessing how the matter was!— Returning home, thro' complicated Lanes, I furthermore picked up an exquisite Cicero's Epistolae Familiares,2 dog-cheap, and came along with it rejoicing.
Thanks for the Hervey, scandalous Croker tho' it be.3 As to Thursday— Yes, and no mistake (if we can help it!): ask Emerson too, if you like: the hour, unless you say otherwise, 5.
