TC was to visit him, Aug.–Sept. 1860, at his seat, Thurso Castle, Caithness.

1. Clearly the powerful address given at an examination of one of the Thurso schools; ptd. Caledonian Mercury, 22 Feb.; rptd. as an append., 87–91, to Observations on the New Scottish Poor Law (1849), a collection of Sinclair's letters of March–April to the Mercury. The speech, partly on Christian duty, attacks pauperization and the new poor law and praises independence.
