TC TO JOHN DAVIS

[22 May? 1849]

Sir,

On reflexion, I think, since you have taken the trouble of writing down those Committee-men of April'43 with their Supplements in Septr, and of Fairfax Forces, you had better retain them,—at least till we see. At the end of each name which is peculiar to either of those Comees put (April) or (Fairfax), respectively: we will explain it in the introductory notice.

An asterisk to those that are “Deputy Lieutenants.”1 The Scotch-money Comee and the Scandalous Ministers, omit altogether.

That, I think, will do.— And remember to send me your Papers along with the Proof.

Yours truly /

T. Carlyle
