TC TO EDWARD CHAPMAN
The Grange, Hants 29 jany, 1850—
Dear Sir,
Will you send a Copy of No 1 of the Latter-Day things1 (and of the following Nos as they come out) to each of the four following places, till I can direct you firsthand:
The Lady Eddisbury / 2. Grosvenor Place / Belgrave Square
E. Darwin Esq. / 7. Park Street / Grosvenor Square
The Lady Ashburton / Bath House / Piccadilly (send this copy up on Thursday day after tomorrow if you can).
John Chorley Esq. / 76. Chester Square / Pimlico
You had better send one to Dickens too, I think.— Forster you will naturally not forget.
If you have an opportunity to Dumfries (as I suppose you will, by Edinr, or by Carlisle) I wish you to send him 5 copies thither, addressed:
Mr Aitken / Assembly Street / Dumfries
And please send 3 for ourselves at Chelsea, as early as you can.
I am to be home again on Thursday;2 and design to fasten upon No. 3.3—Robson,4 if he is anxious about more work, may have some immediately (even before my return) by sending to Chelsea in quest of it. A packet lies wrapt up for him there,—tho' only the first half of the Ms. in that is quite ready, and revised to the full; the latter half it will be better that he return to me immediately, if he take the Packet at all. I was not sure of returning so soon as Thursday when I wrapped it up.
Enough for the present—
Yours always truly, /
T. Carlyle
