TC TO LORD MAHON
Chelsea, 26 May 1850—
Dear Lord Mahon,
I am extremely sorry to deny myself the pleasure of meeting you again according to this kind program:1 but in these weeks I am held so busy, and have got my poor nerves so tattered to pieces, I cannot venture out at all, especially on a morning, except at a ruinous expense of headaches &c &c;—and in fine, am reduced to the sad condition of Entsagen [self-denial], in this and most respects. Me miserum [Unhappy me]!
With many kind regards and thanks, / I remain
Yours most sincerely /
T. Carlyle
