TC TO ARTHUR HELPS

Chelsea, Monday [27 January 1851?]

Dear Helps,—I am anxious enough to hear a little music if there were any going: I think I will keep this Ticket, with many thanks to Hullah 1 and you; and try to find myself in the Long-Acre region some time about the hour.— — — Are you going? Can I not go up with you; or shall not I at least see you there?

TC-AH, [27 Jan.?]. MS: Duke. Hitherto unpbd. Conjecturally dated, assuming that the engagement broken in TC to AH, 2 Feb., is the one here mentioned.

John Pyke Hullah (1812–84; DNB), composer, teacher of choral singing, and writer on music, established singing classes for as many as 50,000 students at Exeter Hall, 1842; St. Martin's Hall, Long Acre, was built for teaching by his system. The ticket was possibly in connection with a gathering of friends and supporters held at St. Martin's Hall, 7 Feb., before its official opening, 11 Feb. Helps was a close friend of Hullah's.
