TC TO LADY STANLEY
Chelsea, 6 March, 1851—
Dear Lady Stanley,
For the last four-and-twenty hours I am quite smitten down with a violent inroad of influenza, which has all at once broken out on me like the Irish Rebellion1 40,000 strong: if I can subdue that in time (of which there is good hope, and if not you shall hear to the contrary) then sure enough I will do my endeavour to see your Ladyship's beautiful self and society on Tuesday Evg.2
Yours ever truly /
T. Carlyle
