TC TO ANTHONY STERLING
[23 October 1851]
To Anthony Sterling Esq
Here is an old gentleman1 whose character, as a friend of your Father's now become very old, gives him a certain venerability; in which sense I have written a short Note to him; politely shutting up the concern, I hope;—promising withal to give you the Letter. Burn it or do what you will with it; to me no answer needed. The good old man seems to have looked into some Newspaper; and will now probably read the Book itself, and so rest.
Yours always truly /
T. Carlyle
