TC TO JOHN FORSTER
[26 May 1853?]
Dear Forster,—I am struck with horror at the thought of your carrying off my old shoe in your pocket, and not in a wheeled vehicle, without touching it. Oh Heaven!
Tell Henry1 however, I shall be with him on Saturday towards 4 p.m.; and hope to achieve a new pair or two, by such miraculous help.
In the uttermost haste (with a pen fabricated in——what place think you!)
Yours ever truly /
T. Carlyle
