TC TO EDWARD CHAPMAN
For Mr Chapman
I make no answer to this Gentn,1—who endeavours, in a very ineffectual way, to persuade himself he is not stealing from me: merely goes to the Coalmine I opened; digs himself an ass-load of coals, “from the bosom of the common Earth,” and says, “There!”— — But, on the whole, I suppose you also have nothing to say to him. Let him drive his poor donkey with its sack of Coals, whither he and it are bound,—and my blessing with them.
Chelsea 14 feby 1854.
I suppose his Paper-List will need to be returned; burn the rest.
