TC TO JEAN CARLYLE AITKEN
Chelsea, 13 Octr, 1855—
Dear Jean,
There have two Notes come from John at the same time this morning: the first from Hanover (across the Sea, a good way); the second from Dover close by,—announcing that he is to be here in the Course of the afternoon. This, tho' I have hardly half a moment, I thought good to write to you on the chance of your getting hold of it tomorrow. The Notes themselves (of his own writing) I was to send on to Isabella at Scotsbrig; which I have done. A Note for you, it seems, is coming round by Moffat,1—to save a penny, or I know not why! There was nothing beyond this announcement of the fact;—welcome, as the weather had been so untowardly.
You have sent me no word for a while past; but I will hope all continues to go well.
With kind remembrances for James, and good wishes especially for newest of the family (what Name has he got, then?) I remain ever
