TC TO W. B. DONNE
Chelsea, 22 Octr, 1855—
My dear Sir,
Lest I should fail of getting to you tomorrow as I have today, I write what is to be said upon the Stuttgard Purchase.
On better investigation, it indisputably comes out that your interrogative Surmise was right in all parts;1 that the “Stuttgard Verein” is idental2 with the “Würtemberg”; that we have already got those Books, Herzogin von Orleans &c &c;3—and that in fine “the order is discharged” (not without remorse on my part, tho' in real truth the blame was not altogether mine!)— I wish we had our new Catalogue ready; I never know what we have or what we have not, except on the report of others!— —!
Much obliged and yours sincerely /
T. Carlyle
