TC TO C. A. HOWELL

Chelsea, 26 june, 1856

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your obliging Offer. If that Letter to Ireton1 is not in the Third Edition (or Second with Appendix)2 of O. C's Letters and Speeches, I shall be very glad to possess a Copy, so soon as it may please you to favour me so far.

Utmost exactitude (in spelling, punctuation &c) is requisite;—if any word remain doubtful, the best way is to send a Pencil-tracing of it on silk paper. The present possessor's name and address (unless something more is certainly known about the history of the Autograph): this is all farther that will be requisite.

Believe me Dear Sir

Yours sincerely /

T. Carlyle
