3. Anthony Sterling wrote to TC from 3 South Pl., 2 April: “Many thanks for your note with its enclosure, and regrets for your being unwell which state let us hope may not last.”
He gave details of the length of Letters from the Army in the Crimea, which he was to publish privately in Oct.: “I am not so reckless of sound advice as you seem to suppose and whether I print
for private circulation or for publication I shall certainly divide according to my poor ability these letters into groups,
with further writing and as you say elucidation. … I cannot help thinking that you would see more daylight peering out of
these letters, if you had heard them all.” He intended making additions to the book, including an index, and to publish it
in 2 vols., but there was to be no index and the letters were pbd. chronologically in one vol.
