TC TO HENRY LARKIN

Scotsbrig, 20 Augt, 1858—

Dear Sir,

The maps have come punctually and safe, along with your Note. Five of them contain what I most essentially wanted; the other 4 may be of a certain use too, and are easily carried. Thanks again.

I had begun to doubt my suggested changes as to that small item in the Table of Contents. Mentioning the page wd no doubt be a convenience in regard to those subaltern headings: but perhaps it wd give a ragged figure to the Printing?1 Perhaps I ought to have left you “as you were,” in all points? Perhaps, also, not!— You and Robson must settle the matter as you find best. If the pages can be specified witht too much expense to appearance, do so by all means.— Pray give Mr R the enclosed (2d) Proof of Titlepage; whh also is left hanging.— Chorley, if thot needful; but you (Mr Larkin) are final.

I go tomorrow morning; hope to see you again (if all go well) about end of Septr. Let me see the Book out, and fairly off our hands, on my lucky return! And so Good b'ye, in haste.

T. Carlyle
