TC TO SIR EDWARD STRACHEY
CHELSEA, November 2, 1858.
DEAR STRACHEY,—We are heartily glad, as all your friends will be, at this new gift Heaven has sent you!1 There is no doubt but, of all the resources you have yet experimented upon, this will be incomparably the richest, to lighten your burdens in this world, or give you a blessed interest in bearing them. May the little fellow prosper, and be useful to himself and to the world one day, as he is already to those in his immediate neighborhood. I offer my respects and congratulations to father and mother,2 and am always,
Sincerely yours, /
T. CARLYLE
EDWARD STRACHEY, etc.
