TC TO LADY SANDWICH
Chelsea, 17 May, 1859—
Dear Lady Sandwich,
Contrary to what I said, the other day, in answer to your benevolent question about madeira, I now privately discover that the “exquisite” sort in use for a certain Weak Creature's Zambiano,1 IS actually running low! I therefore permit your Ladyship the luxury (such you esteem it) there contemplated:—to the extent of Two Bottles, not more!—
We are still rather low here; and weak against the weather; as, we fear, your case too is. But the wind is now evidently coming round to west; and that will be a great benefit to all the Thinskinned.
In very great haste
Your ever faithful /
T. Carlyle
