TC TO HENRY INGLIS
22. George Square / Sunday Night [25 October 1829].
My Dear Sir,
We set off early tomorrow morning; and with this brief Farewell I send you notice that I have returned Diderot's works to the Signet Library, and seen them marked out;1 so that you have still a vacant place in your List. I found there was not room in our Boxes for packing Diderot, and little chance of my getting him read soon. I will apply again, when I am in want.
Pray write me a long Letter very soon; and hold yourself ready to visit us by your earliest leisure. Meanwhile think of me often and kindly, as I do of you.
I remain always, / Affectionately Your's, /
Thomas Carlyle
