TC TO DAVID AITKEN
5. Cheyne Row, Chelsea, / London, 11th June 1835—
My Dear Sir,
Will you who have been a Traveller give Mr Barnard, the Bearer of this, a Traveller's welcome if he go to Minto Manse? He has come from beyond the Atlantic; wishes to see, in passing, our Scottish Arcadia such as it is: Abbotsford, Yarrow water, the Bush aboon Traquair1; perhaps Jeddart too,—but no Jeddart Justice.2
We are to be in Scotland again ere long; and hope it may be within the Chapter of lucky Chances that our way and yours may intersect there. Mrs Carlyle joins with me in kindest good wishes.
I remain always, / My Dear Sir, / faithfully your's /
T. Carlyle.
