TC TO J. R. McCULLOCH
Chelsea, 5 June, 1840—
My dear Sir,
I have not Walpole's Books about me at present; and find no reference in any of my papers to the passage Mr Murray inquires after; the exact locality of which I therefore, unluckily, cannot at the moment point out. It is indubitably in the Letters; I think, in the Letters to Sir Horace Mann,1 pretty far on; the scene is in the House of Commons, not the House of Lords.
If it were of moment to Mr Murray, I could, with no great labour, hunt up the page again, were the Books in my hand.
In haste / Yours always / T. CARLYLE—
