Chelsea, Tuesday [14 March 1843]

Alas, my dear Mrs Rich, I find that I have already two engagements for Saturday, “The British Authors' Society” at 2 o'clock, “The London Library Committee” at 4;—so that we must stand by Thursday for Woolwich after all!1

I shall probably see Scott today at the lecture:2 but at any rate this will find you in time.

The wild Highland Songs are sounding thro' my head strangely this morning.3

In great haste / Yours ever truly / T. Carlyle
