5. Cheyne Row, Chelsea 17 May, 1843—

Dear Forster,

There is not a gleam of new light in Rengger, the unfortunate Rengger; and Funes is all about the Abipones1 and old Jesuit and Ante-Jesuit days! Francia will continue dim till after far wider inquiries. What is to be done?

Will you look among your Indexes, and see whether, since the year 1839, there was any article on Oehlenschläger's Autobiography (not his Plays, but his Autobiography first published then).2 I have just been reading that; and might make a shortish readable story out of it;—and will do it, if your perverse Indexes hold their peace, or even almost if they do not!3 Yours ever

T. C.
