TC TO JANE WELSH CARLYLE
[16 July 1846]
Nothing but this intensely interesting Message this morning!— By the main Mail, your little good tho' sorrowful Note; and an American Address on University matters by Everett,1 which also came by post from Liverpool. Seems a really good thing, in its way. I am getting many American Washingtonisms &c, among other things to read.— The Barings, according to program, are at Alverstoke and visiting the Charterises for 2 days.
