TC TO LADY HARRIET BARING
Chelsea Monday [20 July 1846?]
Surely I will, ma dame: it is well my part if you want me even a very little! Moreover I do like—now and always.
Tomorrow Evg I will call; and some other evening, if I find you gone tomorrow. I have been alone all day; I saw Croydon for a while about sunset in the distance,—but there was nobody there. Ernst ist das leben,1—ernst and yet heiter [cheerful] too, if we understand it. Good night, good night.
