Chelsea, 6 Octr, 1848—

My dear Sir,

Returning from a sojourn of some weeks in the Country, I find your Note lying; and lose no time in doing the small service you ask of me. Mr Mill's domestic address is either 17 or 18 Kensington Square, Kensington; a place easy to find: but I generally catch him best about the India House, some time before 3 O'clock in the day.1 He is a man of somewhat cold and “logical” manner, but full of humanity and varied Knowledge,—easy to talk with sensibly on any subject.

In great haste / Yours very sincerely / T. Carlyle
