TC TO CHARLES KINGSLEY

[ca. 1 March 1850]

I have written to Chapman1, and you shall have his answer on Sunday, if it come within post hours to-morrow; if not then on Tuesday. But without any answer, I believe I may already assure you of a respectful welcome, and the new novel of a careful and hopeful examination from the man of books. He is sworn to secrecy too. This is all the needful to-day,—in such an unspeakable hurry as this present.

And so, right glad myself to hear of a new explosion, or salvo of red-hot shot against the Devil's Dung-heap, from that particular battery, / I remain, / Yours always truly, / T. CARLYLE.
