TC TO EDWARD RUDGE
Cheyne Row, Chelsea / 11 April 1850
Sir,
Will you please to express my thanks to the Gentlemen of your Committee1 for the honour they have done me; and at the same time my sincere regret that, owing to various impediments,—a great pressure of business for one,—I cannot do myself the pleasure of attending on the evening in question.
Wishing heartily a good issue to the Industrial Exhibition, and to all honest labours on behalf of it, I remain
Sir / Your most obedt /
T. Carlyle
The Revd E. Rudge
