TC TO WILLIAM STRUDWICKE
Chelsea, / 19 April, 1850
Dear Sir,
With your permission I will keep this Ticket, as a memento, of your and the other Gentleman of the Committee's kindness to me, which is grateful and valuable, and should not be forgotten;—but I am grieved to answer withal that I cannot make use of it, or attend on the Wednesday Evg as invited.
Your first Letter has lain these three days, among a crowd of others, waiting for a moment of leisure which did not hitherto arrive; had I noted more precisely the near approach of the day fixed, I wd certainly have answered sooner. Pray forgive my seeming negligence; and accept my thanks and regrets.
