[8 May 1851]

Dear Forster,

Here we are, just returned from seeing the wonderful wonder of wonders; which fact was accomplished with every convenience, not the slightest question asked today: and so let the Tickets return, to make some other pair of people happy tomorrow;—with a thousand thanks from us of this day. The edifice and the arrangements are perfect, really a type of English method and dexterity; many of the objects too are well worth seeing: and the people— Oh it is the beautifullest, best got up piece of nonsense that was ever seen in the world!— Once more many thanks.

In haste (dinner ready) / yours ever / T. Carlyle
